“Let’s light everything on fire” is a good enough rallying cry, but when it comes from the perpetually chill mouth of Julia Shapiro, it sounds more like burning everything down is the only way to get away from it all. Chastity Belt’s new track is the polar opposite of Shapiro’s other band Childbirth’s masterpiece “I Only Fucked You As A Joke” — mainly, this joke seems a lot less funny. Over five-and-a-half minutes, the Seattle band trades in half-hearted platitudes like “I feel fine…” before trailing off into wisps of smoke. Like lead single “Time To Go Home,” it’s a deflated sigh of a song, just as concerned with getting lit as it is with … well, “lighting everything on fire.” Listen below.
