Hear Kendrick Lamar Freestyle Over Classic Notorious B.I.G. Beats
Kendrick Lamar set the internet roiling last Friday night when he casually tweeted a link to his album’s release date — exactly two weeks from now on 3/23. In the lead-up to the eventual drop of the Compton rapper’s sophomore album, he’s been doing the typical media appearances but delivering atypical content. For instance, today K.Dot went on Big Boy’s new show on LA radio station Real 92.3 and freestyled over Notorious B.I.G. beats like “The What” in honor of today, the anniversary of Biggie’s death. Who can freestyle like this? When was the last time you heard bars this concise and powerful off the cuff? Kendrick’s delivery and fury on the freestyle are reminiscent of that epic “Control” verse that created such havoc at the end of 2013. Instead of setting his sights on the rap game though, Lamar gets more political. So we could also compare it to his ferocious new single “The Blacker The Berry,” the only song that has been confirmed for his album so far. Listen below.
