I’m not sure how they do it, but every track Kero Kero Bonito put out are straight fire emoji. Maybe it’s a generational thing? Because I can’t imagine anyone but a teen or twenty-something not being deeply annoyed by a song that’s inherently about taking selfies, but it hits all the right buttons for me. “Picture This” is a celebration of our Instagram and Snapchat-obsessed culture, but the bubbly music hints at the vapidity of it all without being cruel. “I really couldn’t say why my life is so photographic/ Because these days it’s just automatic/ Show me a pic or it didn’t even happen,” Sarah Bonito sings in her characteristic clipped tone. “Don’t forget to show everybody you’ve ever known,” she makes sure to add. It’s complicit in the culture, while understanding how ridiculous our generation can be on the surface. And, as with all KKB tracks, it’s just a whole ton of fun. Listen below.
