Stream Mark Knopfler Tracker
Tracker is the latest solo album from Mark Knopfler, who is best known for his work as the frontman and lead guitarist for Dire Straits. Knopfler reflected to Rolling Stone about playing with Dire Straits in the early ’90s, after the band’s peak years, and how he was writing music during this time that didn’t necessarily fit into the band’s sound. After quietly disbanding the group a few years later, he embarked on a solo career, and Tracker is his eighth album.
Knopfler credits his 2011 tour as Bob Dylan’s opening act as part of the inspiration for the record, specifically “Lights Of Taormina” and “Silver Eagle.” The pair first worked together back in 1977 on Dylan’s iconic Slow Train Coming, and Knopfler noted that they have shared interest in the same roots music. Careful listeners will hear a lot of those shared references coming through on the new album, but with plenty of Knopfler’s own idiosyncratic touches. Listen to it below ahead of its release next week.
