Heaters – “Mean Green” (Stereogum Premiere)
“Mean Green” initiates with the kind of hollow drumbeat that takes you back to spontaneous band practices in a high school friend’s garage. The song sculpts a convex, echoing sound that hints at greater things to come, its simplicity stifled by a sense of anticipation. The Grand Rapids psych trio Heaters refuse to fit into their genre persuasion neatly. For starters, they don’t hail from California, and their particular breed of noise doesn’t ride on surf-inspired riff spirals. By skirting stereotypes, Heaters sound like a band that, with a little more attention, could incite a riot live. “Mean Green” is the A-Side to the band’s forthcoming 7″, which is due out in late April on Beyond Beyond Is Beyond Records. The B-Side includes the as-yet-unheard track “Levitate Thigh.” Stream “Mean Green” and check out Heaters’ tour dates below.
