As we said on premature evaluation day: unexpectedly, the Walkmen are a band that matters in 2008, and You & Me is one for the year-end lists.
"In The New Year" came as the advance track, and gave the record's relationship-focused narrative some framing: Ham on about hopes and resolutions, turning inward through the snow and through the therapy sessions, while the band soundtracked the stroll masterfully -- woozy, fighting for balance, traipsing downhill. The video doesn't really tap the Walkmen's potential for awkardness or drunknness, though. Instead director Norman Coady sets Leithauser up against a backdrop of Nosferatu clips, keeping it black & white and spooky, Hamilton straining at the mic as he finds himself superimposed into things dark, and evil, and relatively ancient.
