DeJ Loaf – “On MY Own” & Kid Ink – “Be Real” (Feat. DeJ Loaf) Videos
The predisposition toward immediacy over longevity has doomed many an artist in today’s popular music landscape, regardless of genre, but especially in hip-hop. After the success of DeJ Loaf’s breakout “Try Me” died down, it was unclear if the Detroit rapper would remain relevant, but she took the electricity from the buzz generated by that hit and fed it into her mixtape, Sell Sole, which earned a top 20 spot on our best rap releases of 2014. A string of show-stealing guest verses and hooks has established her place as well. Today, we get the latest visual installment off of Sell Sole for the self-affirming “On MY Own” as well as a video for her Kid Ink assist “Be Real” off his Full Speed album. Oh how quickly the rags turn to riches. In her video, DeJ is in black and white, accentuating the gleaming Rolls Royce Phantom she whips around between cuts of behind-the-scenes footage in which she rubs elbows with hip-hop A-listers. In Kid Ink’s clip, she flashes jewelry with the best of them, and is the perfect complement to his opulent flash and shirtless exploits. “On My Own” up top, “Be Real” down bottom. Watch.
