Oddisee – “Belong To The World”
Oddisee has never been one to shy away from a fight. The Washington D.C. rapper/producer has been toiling away in his own little corner of the industry for years now, churning out albums with lightning speed and shirking current trap-and-gunshot production trends like the plague they’ve become. His new album The Good Fight encapsulates that fierce individualism and he even raps explicitly about his outsider status on the newly released “Belong To The World.” Over production that sounds like a flip of Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight,” Oddisee raps “Never was the cool dude/ Never was the suave guy/ More like the odd one,” giving us a hint at what might’ve helped spark his decision to go by the name Oddisee. This is a song meant to uplift and encourage people who feel like they’re too strange to fit in, and if that sounds cheesy to you I really doubt Oddisee cares. Dismissing encouragement as unnecessary is a luxury only afforded to those who have never needed an outside voice of support. For those who do, though, Oddisee is in their corner. Listen below.
