Big Wild – “Aftergold” (Stereogum Premiere)
Seattle-based indie-elecronic duo ODESZA (Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight) launched their own label Foreign Family Collective, and today we’re premiering the second single in the series. (The first was Troy Samuela & Monsoonsiren’s “Fiend,” and you can hear it here).
Big Wild’s “Aftergold” got under my skin immediately: quiet handclaps, wind-chime tinkling, the ecstatic thrust of the brass, topped off with pinpricked slivers of vocals that evoke Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath (who Big Wild has worked with before via this excellent remix of “Hey Mami“). The L.A.-based producer specializes in intoxicating, plush electronic songs that whip themselves to towering heights and crash back down for the thrill of it.
ODESZA’s Clayton Knight said he’s thrilled to bring Big Wild into FFC fold:
We are very excited to welcome Big Wild to the Foreign Family Collective. Big Wild brings a unique style and flavor to everything he touches and “Aftergold” is no exception.
