The Unicorns’ Alden Penner Announces New EP & Tour With Michael Cera
Canadian spaz-pop greats the Unicorns got back together for a few shows last year, and we still don’t know where their reunion will lead. But right now, band member Alden Penner is staying busy on his own. Earlier this year, he collaborated with the flinchy actor (and former Mister Heavenly bassist) Michael Cera on the song “Meditate.” And now, it turns out that Penner has a whole new EP coming out, and that Cera plays on all of it. The new Canada In Space EP is a conceptual thing about the Canadian residents of a Martian colony. A new mix of “Meditate” appears on the EP, as does the grand, psychedelic new eight-minute song “Breathe To Burn.” Cera plays on the whole EP, and he’ll also join Penner on a quick European tour in June and July. Below, check out “Breathe To Burn” and Penner’s tour dates, as well as a few words about the EP from Penner.
Penner says:
There are more Canadians than any other nationality represented in the planned Mars colony. The Canada in Space EP is an imagining of the dreams, reveries, phantasms, hallucinations, psycho-spiritual projections, naïve mythologies, actions, visions and experiences of an abandoned crew before, during and after its permanent journey to Mars; the compression of time; dispersion, fragmentation of states and generations in space; ultimate detachment & wormholes.
