Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! explains in the beginning of this video that she has a drum loop built for the Cure's "Close To Me" that she was trying to do something with -- then Michael McDonald came on the radio. Serendipitous or not, she seized the moment to combine the two songs. Her version of McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin'" utilizes that drum loop from the Cure song, and the combination works seamlessly. This won't technically be a part of the A.V. Club's annual covers series, but it was too cool a moment for them to pass up, so they've dubbed it a "pre-season" video. Watch it below.
