Watch Blur Reassemble, In All Their Glory, On The Tonight Show
Blur have landed! The Britpop greats have only played two U.S. shows since their 2009 reunion (both at Coachella), and they haven’t been on American TV all together since Graham Coxon left the band in 2002. But Blur have a new album, The Magic Whip, that came out this week, and they’re playing a free last-minute Brooklyn show tonight. And last night, they were the musical guests on The Tonight Show. They played “Ong Ong,” one of the Magic Whip songs that sounds like old-school Blur rather than depressive Damon Albarn solo stuff, which was a great call. And even if you’re among those of us who think The Magic Whip is among the lower tier of Blur albums, there’s still a blast in seeing these four guys onstage together (along with, in this case, a keyboardist, an extra drummer, and a whole phalanx of backing singers). The performance is a good one, and the withering look Coxon gives Jimmy Fallon when he runs up onstage for his hype-up-the-crowd routine might be even better. Watch it below.
