B.B. King Hospitalized Following Claims Of Elder Abuse
Blues icon B.B. King might be the victim of elder abuse. According to TMZ, his daughter Patty King has made several allegations against long-time manager Laverne Toney, who currently has power of attorney over King. Patty, who lives with her father in Las Vegas, called the police yesterday because she felt he needed to be hospitalized and Toney refused to let him receive treatment. The paramedics quickly determined that King did indeed need care.
At the hospital, King’s daughter said doctors determined her 89-year-old father had suffered a minor heart attack. She also took a photo of him at the hospital to help convey the seriousness of the situation:

Last November Patty and her husband filed a police report against Toney, citing elder abuse and burglary. The report alleged that Toney and her assistant had conned King out of anywhere from $20 to $30 million dollars and would withhold his medications on tour. It also accused them of stealing multiple Rolex watches and a ring valued at $250,000. Currently, the police are not investigation the situation and have not filed charges, but King’s daughter told TMZ she is meeting with an attorney to discuss removing Toney’s power of attorney. Toney has not responded to requests for comment.
UPDATE: B.B. King has shared a message on his site:
“I am in home hospice care at my residence in Las Vegas.
Thanks to all for your well wishes and prayers.”
