Chris Connelly – “Mistreated & Wild” (Feat. Claire Massey) (Stereogum Premiere)
Scottish musician Chris Connelly is best known for his time with industrial rock giants Ministry, as well as PigFace, Revolting Cocks, and recently as a part of supergroup the High Confessions with Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley. For the past two years, Connelly wrote and recorded his fifteenth studio album with collaborators Meshell N’dgeocello, Rebecca Pidgeon, and producer Matt Walker (Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey). The result is Decibels From Heart, a collection of sprawling rock soundscapes that borrow from Britpop, shoegaze, and glam while revealing glimmers of Connelly’s hard rock past. Lead single “Mistreated & Wild” coats Connelly’s bruised vocals with elegant strings and shining guitars. The thundering drums recall the brashness of Ministry while Claire Massey’s background vocals usher the track into the present. Hear the song below.
Here’s a statement from Connelly:
“Decibels From Heart”: 2 years of intensive writing & recording to try and acheive some kind of shadowy melodic paradise, along with brilliant and beautiful collaborators such as Meshell N’degeocello & Rebecca Pidgeon, my producer Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN) and what I consider to be THE cream of Chicago’s musical population, I could not be more proud of my 15th solo album.
Decibels From Heart is out 5/12 on Cleopatra. Pre-order it here.
