Young Jesus – “Milo”
Just last week, we premiered Young Jesus’ massive single, “Dirt,” a song so instrumentally enormous that Peter thought it warranted comparisons to the Hold Steady. But the LA-by-way-of-Chicago band knows how to do a lot more than just bash you over the head with cathartic mosh-along arrangements. “Milo” is their latest single, and according to the band’s Facebook, it’s frontman John Rossiter’s favorite song on the forthcoming record, which makes a lot of sense. On “Milo,” Rossiter’s voice is on full display, his playful cadences unmasked by minimal instrumentation. It’s the kind of capacious vocal performance that stands apart without even trying.
