Watch Kristen Schaal Remake Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” Video For Mikal Cronin’s “Turn Around”
Apparently, this is the day we’re all remaking beloved ’90s soft-rock videos. After Jimmy Fallon and Jack Black’s shot-for-shot remake of Extreme’s “More Than Words,” now we get the great Kristen Schaal remaking Natalie Imbruglia’s iconic set-collapsing “Torn” video. This time around, the video serves as Mikal Cronin’s clip for his orchestral psych-pop number “Turn Around,” which Cronin performed on Conan last night. The comedian Kurt Braunohler directed the video, and it’s for JASH’s $5K Video Series, in which comedians get $5,000 to make videos for up-and-coming artists. This one comes together beautifully, with Schaal wearing an Imbruglia-looking wig and throwing herself into all the now-inexplicable stuff that Imbruglia did in that first video. Braunohler plays her love interest, and the clip also features cameos from people like Cronin, Ty Segall, Paul Scheer, Real Estate’s Matt Mondanile, Jonah Ray, and the Kool-Aid Man. Watch it below.
Cronin’s very good new album MCIII is out now on Merge.
