Nocturnal Sunshine – “Believe” (Feat. Chelou)
Nocturnal Sunshine is the alter-ego of the diamond-sharp UK dance producer Maya Jane Coles, whose track “What They Say” formed the backbone of the monster Nicki Minaj/Drake/Lil Wayne smash “Truffle Butter.” Coles has a self-titled Nocturnal Sunshine album coming out later this month, and we’ve posted the first single “Take Me There.” And now Coles has shared another song. “Believe” teams her up with a London indie band called Chelou, and it’s a sparse, nervous, minimal track. Even as Coles piles on ominous clouds of bass, there’s still a catchy, wiry little synth melody in there holding everything together. And Coles’ tracks tend to sound great with vocals over them, though Chelou is sadly not any match for the Nicki/Drake/Wayne tandem. Listen to “Believe” below.
Nocturnal Sunshine is out 5/26 on Coles’ own label I/AM/ME. Pre-order it here.
