Though Young Buffalo officially formed in 2009, the group’s two main songwriters, Ben Yarbrough and Jim Barrett have been polishing their hearty, melodic rock songs for about a decade. The Oxford, Mississippi quartet’s debut album, House, rings with sunny vocal harmonies and and the instrumental playfulness of Vampire Weekend. With their cover of the Beach Boys’ “Hang On To Your Ego”, the group deftly simulates the original tune’s breezy harmonies and ad hoc instrumental digressions while still leaving their own footprint.
