Haley Fohr’s exceptional baritone voice usually steals the show on Circuit Des Yeux songs, but in the accompanying video for “Do The Dishes,” the main character runs naked on a treadmill — that’s pretty hard to top no matter how compelling her vocal phrasing might be. Fohr is on the cusp of releasing her first album through Thrill Jockey records, In Plain Speech, and “Do The Dishes” is the second track we’ve heard from it. Along with earlier track “Fantasize The Scene,” this one continues to build on Circuit Des Yeux’s wiry tension, arranging interlocking synth patterns that grow in size and scope until they reach a necessary, cathartic climax and evaporate into a web of gorgeous strings. The visuals lay out a woman going through the tasks of her day — washing dishes (obviously), working out, vacuuming — but they’re all seen through a bizarre, somewhat surreal lens.
