At Austin’s Levitation festival this past weekend, Texan psych legends the 13th Floor Elevators reunited to play their first show in 47 years. The band was only together for a few years in the first place, and given the mental health problems that frontman Roky Erickson has had over the years, this reunion could’ve gone a lot of different ways. But judging on the one fan-made video we’ve seen, they sounded robust and muscular. The band helped pioneer an astral take on the classic ’60s hammerhead garage-rock sound, and they were able to lock back into it without losing their collective composure. That’s a big win! Don’t hold your breath for news that these guys are going on tour. But maybe?
