Watch Bleachers Play A Great Live-In-Studio Cover Of Kanye West’s “Only One”
Last month, we posted fan-made footage of Bleachers, the great new-wave band led by Fun.’s Jack Antonoff, covering Kanye West’s elegiac single “Only One” in Detroit. And now the band has honed and perfected that cover, playing it live in studio for Transmitter. Antonoff’s arrangement of the song makes it sound like ’80s soft rock, complete with saxophone tootles. But that sounds dismissive, and this is a really great take on ’80s soft rock, like Bon Iver with not-quite-as-good singing. Antonoff also makes the slick move of talking about God as a “She.” Watch the performance below.
Bleachers’ strong 2014 album Strange Desire is out now on RCA.
