Active Child – “Stranger” (Stereogum Premiere)
Active Child’s first single off his new album Mercy is the fragile “1999.” Accordingly it deals in memory, nostalgia and all the sweet pain that accompanies growing up. His next, “Stranger,” occupies a completely different realm from “1999” or the slinky, soulful “Never Far Away.” It bears all of Pat Grossi’s fingerprints — pillowy synths, gorgeous falsetto, unexpected swathes of harp — but it pulses with tension and intrigue. Taken together, these two songs hint that Mercy will cover a huge spectrum of emotion. Listen below.
