The Weeknd – “I Can’t Feel My Face” + “In The Night” + “In The ’90s”
UPDATE: The Weeknd debuted the official version of “I Can’t Feel My Face” at Apple’s Apple Music announcement. Check it out:
Drake affiliate and dark-R&B sensation the Weeknd is making new music, and he seems to be facing the same leak issues as the OVO leader. This time around, Abel Tesfaye has traded some of his terrifying sexuality for Max Martin helium-pop vibes because everyone can use a makeover from time to time. Since all of the Weeknd’s songs include extreme levels of debauchery, the full track that leaked is appropriately titled “I Can’t Feel My Face.” But this is a good thing. Martin’s fingerprints are all over this it from the funky organ to the full-fledged harmonies by a crew of back-up singers. Tesfaye’s signature fatalistic perspective is still here, though; the song opens with the lyrics “I know she’ll be the death of me/ At least we’ll both be numb.” How’s that for a summer anthem? The other songs that leaked are a short snippet of “In The ’90s,” which warns against falling for girls born in that decade, and the full version of a song called “In The Night,” which sounds like Tesfaye doing his best Michael Jackson impression. As MJ impersonators go, he’s pretty incredible. “I Can’t Feel My Face” will probably be the radio hit, but “In The Night” is the real gem here. Listen below.
