The Grateful Dead’s Chicago Farewell Shows Will Stream On SiriusXM
It will never technically be the Grateful Dead without Jerry Garcia, but the surviving members of the band announced a trio of farewell shows to celebrate their 50th birthday. Phish frontman Trey Anastasio will be Garcia’s stand-in, and even if you can’t make it out to Chicago over 4th of July weekend, you’ll be able to stream the shows at home via Sirius XM.
The shows will be held at Soldier Field in Chicago on 7/3-5, and Sirius will broadcast all three live via their Grateful Dead channel. That venue holds special significance: It’s where the Dead performed for the last time with Jerry Garcia, on 7/9/95. Sirius will not broadcast the two additional shows the Dead added in Santa Clara, California on 6/27 and 6/28.
So if those $10K scalper-spiked ticket prices aren’t in your budget, Sirius XM subscribers will be able to watch via the SiriusXM devices mobile app or website. The shows are also available via Live Alliance’s pay-per-view package.
