Mac DeMarco – “Just To Put Me Down”
UPDATE: The song was played without permission by the BBC and has since been pulled.

Prolific, sardonic Canadian indie-rock poster boy Mac DeMarco is releasing a new mini-album this summer called Another One, and another song off that album has surfaced today via a recording off Marc Riley’s BBC Music show. Previously, we’d heard the mumbled, romantic drone of “The Way You’d Love Her,” a sweet ballad punctuated by one of DeMarco’s signature playful guitar solos. The entirety of “Just To Put Me Down” has the freedom of one of those solos, incorporating jazzy piano chords and nodding toward improvisation. It sounds like Mac took an Allman Brothers song and threaded it through a sampler. When he really falls into his groove like this, there’s nothing to do but follow him down. Listen.
Another One out 8/7 on Captured Tracks. Pre-order it here.
