Claude Violante – “I Kill By Night” (Stereogum Premiere)
Claude Violante takes you into her dream inspired track “I Kill By Night” with layers of synths and ’80s influenced electronic beats. The young Parisian artist and composer creates breathy and sensual vocals on the latest song from her forthcoming Your Heart Is Weak EP. Violante is part of the French electro-pop band Haussmann, known for their single “Boys Like Us,” which is featured in the film Les Infidèles. Her first self-titled EP debuted in 2012 and is featured in Feadz track “Far From Home.” She also remixed tracks by artists like La Roux and underground band Trésors. “I Kill By Night” is about Violante’s recurrent dream of killing strangers and asking friends to help hide the bodies. She is surrounded by “crimson rivers” and although she claims innocence, she can’t explain the deaths and questions: “How could I justify?” The song trails off into an electronic ambience — the most relaxing and upbeat end to what some would pose as a murder nightmare.
