Cold Showers – “Plantlife” (Stereogum Premiere)
Cold Showers have experimented with synths in their past work, but never like in “Plantlife,” a track off their upcoming release Matter Of Choice. The song rings more like a Factory Records-era love ballad (“This must be love/ Say it ain’t so”), counter to their moody guitar-driven sound on 2012’s Love and Regret LP and 2013’s Still Life 7″. It seems that the LA band is taking more influence from pop than shoegaze these days, and that’s alright with me. Listen.
Here’s the tracklist for the new album:
01 “She Hangs On”
02 “Only Human”
03 “Plantlife”
04 “Crowds”
05 “Whatever You Want”
06 “Ceasefire”
07 “Undone”
08 “Crowds (Redux)”
Cold Showers have a couple LA gigs coming up, too, including one tonight with No Joy:
06/16 Los Angeles, CA @ Los Globos w/ No Joy
07/16 Los Angeles, CA @ The Echo w/ Light Asylum
Matter Of Choice is out 8/28 on Dais Records. German label Aufnahme + Wiedergabe will release a limited edition “Plantlife” 7″ in August, too.
