Jacob Banks – “Grace”
Jacob Banks is the kind of fluid artist who can make itchy, foot-stomping soul numbers like “Move With You” that work on the FIFA soundtrack, and then move right into devastating R&B crooner territory. His new single, “Grace,” is the latter, a glitchy gospel rework that pulses with spiritual struggle and a shot at redemption. Deep, sultry bass balances out Banks’ yearning, light-as-air vocals, but this song feels more linear than cyclical. It travels from a loop of booming male harmonies at the beginning to delicate strings at the end. According to his SoundCloud, “Grace” was produced by Banks and Tre Jean Marie. The song is off a self-released EP of the same name which will presumably be out soon. Listen.
