Tobias Jesso Jr. Releases Alternate “Without You,” Is The New Face Of Saint Laurent
Tobias Jesso Jr. will be the new face of Saint Laurent’s Music Project, an advertising series that integrates artists young and old in an attempt to revitalize the line’s relationship with popular culture. This isn’t a novel concept in fashion, an art form that’s inextricably linked to music and vice-versa. Joni Mitchell, Courtney Love, Joe Dallesandro, Marianne Faithfull, Curtis Harding, Architects Of Rock And Blues, Josh Homme, Daft Punk, Kim Gordon, Marilyn Manson, Z. Cole Smith, B.B. King, and Christopher Owens have all repped the Saint Laurent line in the past, and now Jesso Jr. ads will run featuring the 29-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter looking great in a field somewhere. The photos were shot by renowned fashion photograoher Hedi Slimane. Check out two more spreads below, courtesy of Hollywood Reporter.
Jesso also released an alternate version of Goon highlight “Without You” featuring a full string section. It’ll be on a double A-side 7″ with pre-fame demo “True Love,” which is finally getting an official release. Hear the new “Without You” below.
Jesso shared a statement on the new “Without You” in a press release:
The first time I heard a string section on ?Without You? was when I played the song on Conan. Me and Ariel [Rechtshaid], who produced the song, both had strings in mind when we originally recorded, but weren’t able to put them on the album due to time and budget constraints. I’ve never been a big fan of alternate versions, but I’ve made an exception this time, simply because it’s hard for me to hear the song any differently since that performance.
The new 7″ is out 9/25 on True Panther. Pre-order it here and get a free Goon piano songbook as seen at SXSW. The digital version is out today; buy it here.
