Brooklyn duo Lushes are unpredictable. The songs off their 2014 debut record, What Am I Doing, stray from typical song structures by incorporating lengthy guitar loops and frequent tempo shifts. Today we’ve got the first single from their new record, Service Industry, a more riffy and less serene Lushes sound than we heard on What Am I Doing. The moody and muted vocals stay on “Low Hanging Fruit,” however, which makes sense because Service Industry was engineered and recorded with longtime Sonic Youth engineer Aaron Mullan. The record explores the monotony of service jobs and modern life, which corresponds with the album artwork: a crumpled and ripped server’s notepad. Listen.
