Pharrell – “Freedom”
Pop mastermind Pharrell debuted the studio version of his new song “Freedom” — which he’s already been playing live — as a part of today’s long-awaited Apple Music launch. Zane Lowe played the track on Beats 1, one of Apple Music’s new radio stations, and it also has an accompanying music video available for purchase as an Apple exclusive. The song is something like the negative image of “Happy,” musically similar but much more serious and political in tone. “Your first name is ‘free,’ last name is ‘dumb,’ ’cause you still believe in where we’re from,” Pharrell sings in the first verse, before repeatedly wailing “Freedom!” in the chorus.
