Free Cake For Every Creature – “Take On Me” Video
Free Cake For Every Creature’s newest tape Moving Songs opens with the short, bittersweet “Take On Me.” In just a minute’s time, Katie Bennett’s diaristic songwriting packs in a reference to cartoonist Lynda Barry, an end that turns the melody of a-Ha’s song of the same name into a twee lullaby, and contains a statement that could sum up Bennett’s whole release: “But for now, I’m not sure what I’m doing/ All I know is that I got to keep on movin’.” The video for the track retains the same attention to small detail. Shot on a camcorder shown through a fuzzy CRT television, we see the empty room referenced in the first line, follow Bennett as she reads a book, ties her shoes. She goes outside to spray paint some circles, which turns into a hat that she wears. It’s a charmingly small video — watch below.
