Mike Krol – “This Is The News” (Stereogum Premiere)
Mike Krol is garage rock’s underdog that everyone will want to root for — they just don’t know it yet. He left behind “graphic-design-as-career” in Milwaukee, moved to Los Angeles, and a few years later took his songs to the studio for his new power pop pursuit with additional band members from across the states. Following the release of two albums, Krol returns with Turkey which is set to release later this summer. Three strikes in baseball will get you out and shamed, but three consecutive strikes in bowling will get you a “turkey” and an envied score. Krol refuses to play the bases and instead rolls out an in-your-face record, and he’s already knocking down pins with the premiere of “This Is The News.” At about a minute and a half long, the fuzzy rock track delivers loud energetic and catchy lo-fi vocals, similar to the likes of Wavves and Jay Reatard. Its noisy hooks will amp you up and leave you wanting more. Listen below.
