Salad Boys – “Dream Date”
New Zealand rockers Salad Boys may have formed with an inside-joke band name that derived from misheard lyrics, but three years later they’re a serious presence with the charging pop tunes. The Christchurch trio has supported bands like Sebadoh, the Bats, and Parquet Courts on tour along with performing as the backing band for their legendary countryman David Kilgour of the Clean. Following their 2013 self-titled and successfully sold out mini-album, Salad Boys are set to release their full-length debut Metalmania (don’t let the title fool you). The upbeat track “Dream Date” is packed with catchy melodies and a speedy jangling rhythm that refuses to mellow out. It closes with a minute of head-banging worthy guitar riffs, whaling and echoing to the sunny pop-rock vibes. It’ll bring out your cool concert dance moves — or head nods if that’s more your style.
