Natasha Kmeto – “Come And Say”
It’s been two years since the spare electronic tension of Natasha Kmeto’s debut album Crisis, and now the multi-talented Portland producer, singer, and songwriter is releasing a follow-up. Kmeto is one of the central figures in the Northwest electronic music scene and a member of label/collective Dropping Gems, an independent group of artists who strive to connect the Northwest with the larger international electronic scene. Kmeto has always worked with tight, echoing beats, contrasting that negative space with dramatic lyrics. On the first track off Inevitable, “Come And Say,” she whips her voice into a frenzy, transcending the handclaps and synths with a soaring chorus: “Won’t you come and say / That you won’t go.” This might sound like a simple line, but given that Kmeto contextualizes this new album as a self-actualization of her queer identity, it takes on even more weight.
