Superhuman Happiness – “VHS” (Stereogum Premiere)
Joy and contemplation are mutually inclusive on the track “VHS” from Superhuman Happiness, a recently reconstructed band that blends ’80s pop with ’70s prog rock. The Brooklyn-based band is the project of Stuart Bogie, an acclaimed saxophonist who has toured as part of Arcade Fire and Iron & Wine and performed on albums and arranged for TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, David Byrne, and Yeasayer. On their new LP Escape Velocity, Superhuman Happiness brought on vocalist Andrea Diaz to add her flair to their incredibly layered electronic songs. The aforementioned contemplation arises from lyrical concepts that analyze the human condition. According to a press release, “VHS” explores how forms of multimedia work into storytelling and communication and, in turn, how that affects our memories and meaning. Sounds pretty deep for a dance song. Listen and check out tour dates below.
