Myrkur – “Skøgen Skulle Dø”
Myrkur’s first full-length album, M, is coming out next month, but I’ve already written a whole bunch about the thing: here and here and here and here and here. “Skøgen Skulle Dø” is technically the third album track to be debuted in advance of the record’s release, but it’s the fourth if you count the demo version of “Skaði,” which came out late last year, and it’s really the fifth, if you count “Dybt I Skoven,” an earlier recording of which was included on Myrkur’s self-titled 2014 EP. In any case, you’ve now heard a pretty decent percentage of M if you’ve been following along this whole time, but if you haven’t, “Skøgen Skulle Dø” is a fine place to start. It’s actually where the album itself starts: It’s the opening track on M, and it gives a fairly representative idea of the many textures and terrains covered on the LP. I think M is a fantastic record; it’s one of the most diverse and daring black metal collections I’ve heard in 2015. Listen to “Skøgen Skulle Dø” below, and then go back and listen to all those other songs, too, and let me know what you think.

M is out 8/21 via Relapse.
