Reservations – “To Be Honest”
Reservations are an Austin three-piece that originally emerged as a folk duo consisting of frontwoman/songwriter Jana Horn and Good Field’s Paul Price. Following their 2012 self-titled EP, they added their friend Jason Baczynski on drums and decided to take on a heavier rock sound. Now they’re gearing up for their studio debut Taking Time and share the melancholy album cut “To Be Honest.” Although Reservations are moving away from minimalist folk, the track still bares stripped-down elements, its calming percussion and layered guitars crying in tune with Horn’s heartache. She wrote a majority of the record when she was 19, but “To Be Honest” reaches a lyrical and melodic maturity that goes beyond teen years. Her soothing vocals expose a lonely and trying wound that holds no prejudice to age. Listen below.
