Willis Earl Beal – “Survive”
The seemingly boundless creative output of Willis Earl Beal continues with this year’s NOCTURNES, an album he recorded after a move out to the solitary woods of Olympia, Washington. We’ve already heard “Flying So Low” from the record, and now here’s another one. “Survive” could almost be seen a response to critics, who were eager to jump on and categorize Beal’s music in ways he wasn’t comfortable with. “If you wanna survive, ’cause they’ll eat you alive,” he sings on the chorus. “In your heart you feel you’re right but they tell you you’re wrong/ The melody you orchestrate don’t go with the song.” Listen below.
Nocturnes is out 8/28 via Tender Loving Empire.
