If you want to know what it’s like to watch Miguel perform live during the very peak of his current WILDHEART era, read a great review of his show at Terminal 5 last night here. But if you’re more interested in the man behind the myth — aka Miguel seven years ago — then check out this pre-fame video of him belting out an unreleased track in a parking lot.

The performance is part of a mini-documentary shot by Yours Truly way back in 2008 and titled Crazy Enough. In the clip, Miguel takes the camera crew through his childhood neighborhood of LA suburb San Pedro, talks about his label difficulty, and sings an unreleased song out in public with no qualms. He’s rocking the kind of sunglasses and shaved head aesthetic that bring Pharrell to mind — luckily he’s gone in favor of luscious locks since then. Check out the blast from the past below.
