Deradoorian – “Komodo”
Former Dirty Projector Angel Deradoorian is releasing her latest full-length The Expanding Flower Planet later this month. She’s already charmed ears with her trippy single “A Beautiful Woman” and her darker staccato followup “The Eye,” both tracks pushing a sense of increased urgency compared to her previous EP Mind Raft. But “Komodo” is her most far reaching track as it creates a cinematic dissonance that walks the line between ominous and harmonious. Deradoorian was inspired by East Indian, Middle Eastern, and traditional Japanese music for the LP, and “Komodo” is a clear nod to such ancient traditions with a touch of psychedelic rock. Her angelic and chanting harmonies rise over chiming effects, while a prominent bass line gently paces through the background. You can tell that danger is approaching but you’re enchanted by it as well. Listen below.
