Patti Smith’s Just Kids Will Be A Showtime Series
Showtime has just announced that they’ve picked up an adaptation of Patti Smith’s memoir, Just Kids, for a limited series order. As Vulture points out, Smith has been working on the screenplay for the adaptation for the last four years alongside The Aviator and Hugo screenwriter John Logan. The series will document Smith’s relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe through the ’60s and ’70s in NYC. “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation,” Smith, who will also serve as co-producer, said in a statement. “The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”
Smith’s second memoir, M Train is due out this fall.
