Cheatahs – “Seven Sisters” (Stereogum Premiere)
Cheatahs have been one of the best shoegaze bands in the world for some time now, but we might not be able to pigeonhole them as shoegaze anymore. The exciting evolution of this year’s Sunne EP continues on “Seven Sisters,” the lead single from sophomore full-length Mythologies. Sure, the London combo still incorporates gorgeous haze into their sound, but there’s much more to this song: tumbling drums, psychedelic singsong melodies (including guest vocals from Liv Willars and Heather Perkins), ambient textures that shimmer through the music like prismatic waves of light. It reminds me of Broadcast’s retro-futuristic glories, but Cheatahs are a lot more rock ‘n’ roll. Listen below.
