Promised Land Sound – “Otherworldly Pleasures”
Nashville scuzzy psych-rockers Promised Land Sound’s second full-length For Use And Delight will be out in early October, and we’ve already heard the quiet, rippling “She Takes Me There.” Today they’ve shared a more boisterous, chugging country number called “Otherworldly Pleasures,” and frontman Joe Scala sounds like he’s funneled all the best bits of Dylan’s surprisingly sweet Nashville Skyline phrasing into his delivery here. Still, for all the folk underpinnings, an unrelenting slew of psych noodling and full-band harmonies via Grateful Dead group sing-alongs come through, too. This track puts Promised Land Sound squarely in the realm of Dr. Dog, Deer Tick, and Delta Spirit, comparisons that wouldn’t have come to mind simply off the spare, lush first single. For all the focus on spirituality, “Otherworldly Pleasures” is surprisingly physical, muscling through insistent drums and tightly-coiled guitar. Listen.
For Use And Delight is out 10/2 via Paradise of Bachelors. Pre-order a digital or physical copy.
