Dâm-Funk – “Glyde 2Nyte” (feat. Leon Sylvers III & Leon Sylvers IV)
We haven’t had a new solo album from Damon Riddick, aka Dâm-Funk, since 2009’s Toeachizown, so it’s safe to say it’s been a while. But he’ll return soon with Invite The Light, an album that boasts an amazing catalog of collaborators (Ariel Pink, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, Nite Jewel, Kid Sister, and Junie Morrison of the Ohio Players among them). On the heels of lead single We Continue comes “Glyde 2Nyte,” a collaboration with father-son duo of Leon Sylvers III and IV. Leon III was a member of the Sylvers and one of the most successful producers in black music during the ’70s and ’80s. He and his is son, Leon IV, lend their smooth voices to this slow-grooving track. In a sense, this is Dâm-Funk coming full circle; he used to be an apprentice to Sylvers III way back in the early 2000s. Listen.
Invite The Light is out 9/4 via Stones Throw Records.
