Little May – “Seven Hours” (Stereogum Premiere)
At the end of last year, somber Sydney trio Little May released their self-titled EP, a five-song affair that melds crisp, clean electronics with the kind of wild, heart-numbing folk that the Staves, First Aid Kit, and Daughter have down to a science. Or maybe it’s more fitting to compare them to Kate Stables of This Is The Kit, since Aaron Dessner of The National produced her album along with theirs. “Seven Hours” is the latest single off that forthcoming debut album For The Company, out this October via Capitol.
Liz Drummond, Hannah Field, and Annie Hamilton sing most of their songs in tightly-knit, dark harmonies that tear through moments of calamity with pristine, powerful force. “I need you to give me back my lungs so my body can forgive me,” Field sings, succinctly rendering the emotional power others have over us into the semblance of a physical force. Listen below.
