Julia Holter's new album Have You In My Wilderness was introduced to us with the wonderfully baroque swooner "Feel You." Today, the ambient-pop experimentalist has shared her crawling, dulcet ode to the beach, "Sea Calls Me Home." As in most of her work, Holter manages to weave celebration and sadness into a single tone. A marching band backbeat helps split the song into distinct emotional pools. A free jazz break erupts about halfway through, only to be upstaged by swelling strings and triumphant brass. There's the same sense of journeying and self-reflection on this song as "Feel You," but with a hint more defiance, a bit more determination.
