Shunkan – “The Pink Noise”
Marina Sakimoto is a 21-year-old singer and songwriter from Los Angeles who now leads Shunkan, a New Zealand band named after a Japanese warrior monk. Got all that? No? Doesn’t matter. Here’s what you need to know: Shunkan make indie-pop with sweetness but also with nerve and muscle. “The Pink Noise,” the first single from the band’s forthcoming full-length debut, is straight-up muscular twee-pop with a starry-eyed chorus and a charged-up fuzz-riff that SPIN rightly compares to Japandroids. Listen to it below.
The Pink Noise is out 11/20 on Art Is Hard Records.
