Watch Britt Daniel, Will Butler, Mac McCaughan, & More Talk Songwriting In SXSW Panel
At SXSW back in March, Spoon’s Britt Daniel, Arcade Fire’s Will Butler, Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan, Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws, and Marshall Crenshaw all participated in a panel called “I Wrote That Song,” now in its third year, where they each discussed how they write songs and performed a few of them to show off their skills. As Pitchfork points out, the songs played shook out as follows: Daniel did “Rainy Taxi,” Butler performed “Take My Side” and a new, untitled one, McCaughan did “Lost Again,” Caws did “Friend Hospital” and “See Those Bones,” Crenshaw did “Grab The Next Train” and “Cynical Girl,” and Big Star’s Jody Stephens — who wasn’t part of the panel, but was in the audience — hopped on stage to do “Thirteen” and “For You.” You can watch the full hour-long panel below.
