The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

Have you watched Kendrick Lamar on Colbert? Because holy fuck. If you haven't watched it, watch it. If you have watched it, watch it again. It's really something. That's the best piece of music-related video I've seen all week, easily. But regular music videos had a pretty good week, too, and our five picks are below.

5. Life Sim - "ILD" (Dir. Daniel Swan)

This kaleidoscope of movie clips is full of images from shit movies that, stripped from context, look beautiful and amazing. I can't imagine the amount of work that must've gone into finding all the right transitions here. But if I'm being honest, I wish the whole video was made up of landscapes, real and imagined, the way the intro is.

4. John Grant - "Disappointing" (Feat. Tracey Thorn) (NSFW-ish) (Dir. David Wilson)

I haven't seen a music video objectify men this flagrantly since Jennifer Lopez's "I Luh You Papi," or Salt-N-Pepa's "Whatta Man" before it.

3. Kurt Vile - "Life Like This" (Dir. Adam Avilla)

I'll have what he's having.

2. Jay Rock - "Vice City" (Feat. Black Hippy) (Dir. Joe Weil)

The women-as-objects thing is a bit intense, even by rap-video standards. But still, this is a fun reenvisioning of the dudes-in-a-warehouse-rapping video format that I love so much. And maybe it's only because male privilege allows me this, but I see Schoolboy Q hugging a butt, and I laugh.

1. Battles - "The Yabba" (Dir. Roger Guàrdia)

The best performance-based music video I've seen in a dog's age, probably because it's the one least concerned with making sense.
